Postdoctoral and Research Fellow positions in Computer Science (deadline Oct 12, 2014)

Aalto University and the University of Helsinki, the two leading universities in Finland within computer science and information technology, are looking for Postdoctoral Researchers and Research Fellows. Helsinki ICT network: 20 Doctoral Student positions (call deadline Sep 30, 2014)

The Helsinki Doctoral Education Network in Information and Communications Technology (HICT) is a joint initiative by Aalto University and the University of Helsinki, the two leading universities within this area in Finland. The network involves at present 54 professors and over 200 doctoral students, and the participating units graduate altogether more than 40 new doctors each year.

The activities of HICT are structured along six research area specific tracks:
- Algorithms and machine learning
- Creative technologies
- Life science informatics
- Networks, networked systems and services
- Software and service engineering and systems
- User centered information technology

The quality of research and education in both HICT universities is world-class, but the education is still practically free as there are no tuition fees in the Finnish university system. Helsinki has been ranked as the World's Most Livable City (Monocle, 2011), and is the capital city of Finland, which is in the top 10 of the most highly educated nations in the world (OECD, 2013), and has been selected as the world’s best country to live in (Newsweek, 2010).

Postdoctoral Researcher positions - continuous call

The Department of Information and Computer Science at the Aalto University School of Science is inviting applications for postdoctoral researcher positions at the Department's teaching and research areas which include machine learning and algorithmic data analysis, computational methods for grids and clouds, constructing and solving large constraint models, system design automation (modeling, verification, synthesis), as well as discrete computational methods.

Tenure track or tenured position in Information and Computer Science - expired

The position is located at the Department of Information and Computer Science (http://ics.tkk.fi/en/), and is open to outstanding individuals who hold a doctorate and have excellent potential for a successful scientific career. On the basis of their experience and competence, applicants will be placed at one of the four levels of the tenure track system: Assistant Professor (1), Assistant Professor (2), Associate Professor, and (Full) Professor. Applicants to the junior positions (levels 1 and 2) are required to have carried out at least one successful postdoctoral period after their doctorate. Successful candidates at the two first‐mentioned levels will be appointed for a fixed term whereas appointments at the Associate Professor level are either permanent (tenured) or for a fixed term. Full Professor positions are always tenured.
