An honours programme for exceptionally qualified Master's students at the ICS department was launched in Autumn 2009. To qualify, a student must have one of the department's subject areas as a confirmed ("HOPS") major or minor in their M.Sc. degree studies, a general GPA of 4.0 or higher, and show good progress in their studies. The honours status is granted for one year at a time for a maximum of two years.
Students admitted to the honours programme are associated to one of the department's research groups, and will have the opportunity for part-time employment during semesters in research-related work. In summer the students have the possibility of entering into full-time employment in the department's competitive summer internship programme. The honours students will also have access to the department's research facilities (computing resources, online services, library).
The deadline for honours status applications for the academic year 2012-2013 is Monday, June 18 2012, 3 p.m. To apply, please submit the following printed documents to the ICS Department Secretary, Ms. Minna Kauppila (office B336) by the deadline:
You will have the opportunity to update your transcript concerning your studies in Spring 2012 until Monday, 13 August. You must have completed your B.Sc. studies and obtained your degree certificate by that date. New students to the honours programme will then be selected by the steering group of the ICS department in the following week, and the selected students will enter the programme on 1 Oct 2012.
First-year honours students continuing to the second year must have completed at least 50 study credits in their first year in the programme, with a total GPA of 4.0 or higher. The standing of the second-year students is verified in connection with the admissions process for the first-year students.
For further information on the programme, please contact the Academic coordinator of the ICS department, Dr. Anu Juslin (office B356).
